SCAT  Motor Show

Rain on Saturday morning and more rain forecast.  I checked the oil, tyre pressure and then made a run for it   The journey to Shrewsbury was fun - dodging puddles & spray, then the heavens opened at the Crematorium roundabout.   After a short wait under the brolly, I was shown into the covered workshop along with an immaculately maintained Audi coupe and shortly afterwards a lovely sounding 1970's BMW arrived and pulled up next to me.  Already in the garage was a Southampton County Council Electric powered car, whose battery apparently cost in excess of £8000, and a very interesting Peugeot 206 whose bodywork and interior had been completely covered with flocked type material - red on the outside and cream inside - it reminded Roger of when he worked for a company making flocked window channel.

Other cars to join us in the workshop were a grass track racer mini with 1000cc engine, an impressively maintained and cared for Vauxhall Nova, whose owner spent the best part of 2 hours drying, cleaning, and polishing, all the time with the car facing the  workshop door where rain was lashing down, and a twin R1 engined single seater grass track racer that weighed 600kg & had over 350BHP on tap.

It wasn`t until quite late on that the opportunity arose for me to venture out (it was still raining BTW).  In the car park were around 30 different cars, including a familiar Birkin, ranging from a pair of maturing Audi Quatro's, a Porsche and some interesting looking classics whose names I have yet to find on the net, not for want of trying mind.

A (free)cup of tea and a burger were sufficient refreshments to keep me sustained for the rest of the day, during which a lot more interest was shown in the cars & ShACC, and I managed to drive all the way home without getting wet, thankfully the rain stopped for most of the afternoon.

Overall an enjoyable day seemed to be had by all and the rain didn`t seem to dampen the spirits too much.
